Marshall County Blueberry Festival ‎2010

Blue goes Green Recycling Program: The numbers are in.

At this year's Blueberry Festival, 4.21 tons of cardboard and 2.28 tons of plastic bottles and aluminum cans were recycled, keeping 6.49 tons of materials out of the local landfill! That's a lot of trash, or non-trash depending on your point of view!

In 2009, the amount of items recycled were 3 tons.

A big THANK YOU to Marianne Peters our Recycling Coordinator, Mike Good of Marshall County Solid Waste District Recycle Depot and the entire "Green Team"!

Marshall County Blueberry Festival Blueberry shares more fun facts from this year's festival:

The Culver Rough and Hilly Young Farmers served 550 gallons of Blueberry Ice Cream and sold out of that flavor. They were serving 4-6 cones a minute! The Plymouth Optimist Clubs annual Fly In Breakfast at the airport served over 1,300 guests from 7:00 am - 12:00pm. And Libby's Kettle Corn popped 1,500 pounds of popcorn!

A special announcement by the Marshall County Blueberry Festival:

Hi Blueberry Festival Fans, Here's a Fun Fact from this years festival. Grace Family Fellowship aka The Blueberry Donut Booth used 1 ton of shortening, 3,500 lbs of cake donut flour, 1,800 lbs of powdered sugar for the glaze, 500 lbs of local blueberries (which they bought from Pertic's Blueberry Plantation here in Marshall County), were making 27 donuts per minute, sold 53,000 donuts and enlisted 210 volunteers to help!

If you have ever seen the lines that wrapped around the corner throughout the festival, you'd have to agree: That's a lot of "DOUGH" and very "NUTS!" YUM!
